We combine scientific depth with real-world applicability. By linking expertise to current challenges, we ensure that knowledge leads to better decisions, more resilient systems, and a safer water supply.

How we work

We believe in collaboration, innovation, and knowledge sharing. Our approach is rooted in craftsmanship, curiosity, and societal relevance. We work closely with our shareholders – Dunea, PWN, and Waternet – as well as with universities, research institutes, and fellow laboratories.

We are part of the Dutch national infrastructure for drinking water quality control and contribute to sector-wide innovation, policy development, and operational excellence. Founded in 2003, Het Waterlaboratorium operates as a semi-public organization, established by three Dutch public drinking water companies. This structure ensures a strong connection to public interests and long-term sector goals.

Our team operates with independence and integrity. We are ISO/IEC 17025 accredited (scope L404) and officially recognized by the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management for drinking water control. This guarantees that our work meets the highest standards of scientific and regulatory quality.

What makes us Unique

Het Waterlaboratorium is more than a testing facility. We are a knowledge partner that bridges science, technology, and societal needs. What sets us apart is how we apply our expertise: not just to measure, but to understand, advise, and innovate.

Our strength lies in the dedication and expertise of our people. From field technicians to data experts, every colleague contributes to uncovering the true quality of water. We work with deep knowledge, sharp analytical skills, and an independent perspective.

We are firmly embedded in the public drinking water sector and actively contribute to solving real-world challenges. By investing in new methods, digital solutions, and sector-wide collaboration, we ensure our insights remain relevant – today and in the future.

We reveal what others cannot see. That’s our passion – and our mission.
